First services of the Sandy Church of Christ were held Nov. 5, 1950, in the American Legion Hall on Main St.  Blanton Brown, principal of the Columbia Bible School, Portland, was minister of the new congregation, which was sponsored by the Portland Central Church of Christ. Charter members were: Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Blanton Brown, Letha M. Crone, Maridene Crone, Anne Hudelson, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Blevins, Stanley Blevins, Mrs, Lewis Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Vertrees, Roy Nash, and Mrs. Mira Hornecker.

For the next eight years the group continued to meet in rented buildings, including the Odd Fellows Hall, the Masonic Hall. In 1954 a building site for the present building was pur­chased at E. Main and TenEyck Road. Con­struction began in 1957 and, upon completion of the lower level in 1958, services were held there until the upper level auditorium was finished in 1961.

Forest Moyer and Gerald Long, preached from 1955-60, served the church as co-elders, with Gerald devoting his full time to the needs of the congregation and community. 

John Bessire, who lost his sight in his early twenties, preached for the congregation several years and was an elder.

Bible scholar and professor, Hugo McCord, and author of "McCord's New Testament Translation of the Everlasting Gospel" also preached here during the 1990's.

Dean Catlett preached in the 2000's up until fall 2006. Bob Stancell has been the minister since then. In 2015 the church opened a teaching museum of biblical history and artifacts that is free to the public.
